Commonwealth of PA - Pennsylvania's Capitol Building, North & South Light Courts
Description: L.R. Costanzo took great care to restore the historic North and South Light Courts of PA's Capitol Complex. The Capitol's Renaissance-style marble work, paint and gold leafing echoes the inspiring architecture found throughout Europe. L.R. Costanzo worked closely with a conservator to record the entire restoration process to preserve the historical integrity of the Courts. In recognition for their efforts, Harrisburg Builder's Exchange awarded
L.R. Costanzo the 2005 Craftsmanship Awards for this restoration.

The plaster ceilings, walls, beam drops, soffits, moldings, and railings were all documented, repaired and refinished.The removal, restoration and reinstallation of the lead glass skylight served as the finishing touch that brought the team's efforts together.

In the beginning stages, L.R. Costanzo engaged a laboratory to analyze paint and leafing samples to get an exact match for the restoration finishes.
L.R. Costanzo also utilized a structural engineer to erect six stories of scaffolding to protect the area's friction fit, original mercer tile floor. Walkways installed through the scaffolding for pedestrian traffic enabled the Capitol's daily operations to continue uninterrupted.
