Project

L.R. Costanzo (LRC) served as the General Contractor in the renovation of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, including new floor, wall, and ceiling finishes. In addition to support the new imaging equipment, the HVAC rooftop unit was replaced and existing utilities were upgraded.

Challenges

  • Temporarily retrofitting the existing mechanical unit for use during construction in order to maintain operations in two adjacent catheterization labs
  • Executing designed utility routes around existing utilities and obstructions
  • Isolating construction from hospital operations using ICRA barriers to prevent contamination

Solutions

  • Proposed redesign modification of mechanical unit and performed selective demolition during coordinated shutdown to minimize disruption
  • Conducted extensive field investigations and created 3-D coordination drawings to locate the best route
  • Reviewed approved ICRA plan, conducted coordination meetings with owner and staff, and obtained approval of barrier location

Construction Details

  • Created an equipment room to house the panels and controls required by the diagnostic equipment vendor
  • Renovated Controls Room to accommodate upgraded equipment features
  • Added valves and controls that make future renovations easier, because the rooms are able to be isolated, minimizing interruptions at adjacent areas
  • Reinforced existing structural framing to meet design support requirements
