Geisinger Henry Cancer Center
Project
L.R. Costanzo Construction Co., Inc. (LRC) performed the carpentry work for this large-scale project that consisted of a new, 3-story addition and renovations to Geisinger’s existing hospital campus. It included a new lobby, retail pharmacy, treatment bays and rooms, radiation and gynecologic oncology department, compounding pharmacy, administrative spaces, café, hair boutique, and mechanical penthouse.
Challenges
- Procurement issues…especially millwork (long lead times)
- Project was executed on a tight timeline
- Installing the millwork feature wall as the main focal point of the front entrance
Solutions
- Built to drawings instead of waiting for drywall installation. Maintained continual contact with vendors
- Work was carefully and closely coordinated with owner, designer, and staff to ensure time was used effectively
- Placed LRC’s best craft on the wall installation; executed frequent quality control checks; monitored that fabrication was up to standards
Construction Details
- Installed owner-furnished doors, frames and hardware; wall protection; hand rails and bumper rails; graphic wall protection; millwork, including feature wall panels; toilet partitions; toilet accessories; owner-furnished accessories; building expansion joints; and a temporary walkway between the hospital and addition
- New connection between existing bed tower in main building and new cancer center
