PROJECT
Once declared “the most beautiful Capitol in the nation” by President Theodore Roosevelt when the building was dedicated in 1906, Pennsylvania’s Capitol building underwent significant historical restoration. This project included the restoration of the Third & Entresol Floors – South Wing.
CHALLENGES
- Removal of non-historic work undertaken in the 1970’s
- Restoration of intricate Renaissance designs
- Matching of historic finishes, such as paint and leafing
- Building occupied by the House and Senate during construction
SOLUTIONS
- Worked closely with the Capitol Preservation Committee and a conservator to record the entire restoration process and ensure historical integrity
- Engaged a laboratory to analyze finish samples to obtain exact match
