PROJECT
Renovation of a 35,000 square-foot warehouse for use as a cold storage facility and distribution center. Renovation included office areas to accommodate the needs of the client.
CHALLENGES
- Located near seismic zone
- Retrofit of existing unconditioned warehouse into temperature controlled storage space
- Installation of coolers and freezers inside the existing box
- Moving owner’s existing equipment while maximizing downtime
- Integrating monitoring, ordering and other systems with the main systems located in Eastern PA over 1,000 miles away
SOLUTIONS
- Worked closely with municipality and inspection agencies ensuring design met or exceeded construction codes
- Careful coordination and planning with professionals to select proper systems, equipment and existing building modification to house cooler and freezer
- Careful coordination and planning to bring cooler and freezer panels in unassembled and paying attention to critical building dimensions
- Specific move schedule, often by hour if necessary. To minimize down time, construction was done off shift, on weekends, and during their slow order time. Additionally, orders were diverted to other facilities until the system was operational.
